Intestinal Diseases

Medical Definition:	Pathological processes in any segment of the INTESTINE from DUODENUM to RECTUM.

Intestinal Diseases Categories.

	Cecal Diseases - Pathological developments in the CECUM.
	Colonic Diseases - Pathological processes in the COLON region of the large intestine (INTESTINE, LARGE).
	Duodenal Diseases - Pathological conditions in the DUODENUM region of the small intestine (INTESTINE, SMALL).
	Ileal Diseases - Pathological development in the ILEUM including the ILEOCECAL VALVE.
	Intestinal Obstruction - Any impairment, arrest, or reversal of the normal flow of INTESTINAL CONTENTS toward the ANUS.
	Intestinal Perforation - Opening or penetration through the wall of the INTESTINES.
	Intestinal Polyposis - The growth of INTESTINAL POLYPS. Growth processes include neoplastic (ADENOMA and CARCINOMA) and non-neoplastic (hyperplastic, mucosal, inflammatory, and other polyps).
	Jejunal Diseases - Pathological development in the JEJUNUM region of the SMALL INTESTINE.
	Malabsorption Syndromes - General term for a group of MALNUTRITION syndromes caused by failure of normal INTESTINAL ABSORPTION of nutrients.
	Mesenteric Vascular Occlusion - Obstruction of the flow in the SPLANCHNIC CIRCULATION by ATHEROSCLEROSIS; EMBOLISM; THROMBOSIS; STENOSIS; TRAUMA; and compression or intrinsic pressure from adjacent tumors. Rare causes are drugs, intestinal parasites, and vascular immunoinflammatory diseases such as PERIARTERITIS NODOSA and THROMBOANGIITIS OBLITERANS. 	Pneumatosis Cystoides Intestinalis - A condition characterized by the presence of multiple gas-filled cysts in the intestinal wall, the submucosa and/or subserosa of the INTESTINE. The majority of the cysts are found in the JEJUNUM and the ILEUM.
	Protein-Losing Enteropathies - Pathological conditions in the INTESTINES that are characterized by the gastrointestinal loss of serum proteins, including ALBUMIN; IMMUNOGLOBULINS; and at times LYMPHOCYTES. Severe condition can result in HYPOGAMMAGLOBULINEMIA or LYMPHOPENIA. Protein-losing enteropathies are assoicated with a number of diseases including INTESTINAL LYMPHANGIECTASIA, WHIPPLE'S DISEASE, and NEOPLASMS of the SMALL INTESTINE.
	Rectal Diseases - Pathological developments in the RECTUM region of the large intestine (INTESTINE, LARGE).
