Medical Definition:	The application of scientific knowledge to practical purposes in any field. It includes methods, techniques, and instrumentation.

Technology Categories.

	Automation - Controlled operation of an apparatus, process, or system by mechanical or electronic devices that take the place of human organs of observation, effort, and decision. (From Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 1993)
	Biomedical Technology - The application of technology to the solution of medical problems.
	Miniaturization - The design or construction of objects greatly reduced in scale.
	Quality Control - A system for verifying and maintaining a desired level of quality in a product or process by careful planning, use of proper equipment, continued inspection, and corrective action as required. (Random House Unabridged Dictionary, 2d ed)
	Technology Transfer - Spread and adoption of inventions and techniques from one geographic area to another, from one discipline to another, or from one sector of the economy to another. For example, improvements in medical equipment may be transferred from industrial countries to developing countries, advances arising from aerospace engineering may be applied to equipment for persons with disabilities, and innovations in science arising from government research are made available to private enterprise.
