Tachycardia, Supraventricular
Medical Definition: | A generic expression for any tachycardia that originates above the BUNDLE OF HIS. |
Guide Notes: | GEN: prefer specific types of supraventric tachycardia; originates above the bundle of His: do not confuse with TACHYCARDIA, VENTRICULAR which originates below the bundle of His |
Previously Indexed: | Tachycardia (1966-1986),Tachycardia, Paroxysmal (1966-1986) |
Accelerated Idioventricular Rhythm - A transient and intermittent type of arrhythmia with episodes lasting from a few seconds to a minute which usually occurs in patients with acute myocardial infarction or with digitalis toxicity. Suppressive therapy is rarely necessary because the ventricular rate is generally less than 100 beats per minute.
Tachycardia, Atrioventricular Nodal Reentry - A tachycardia characterized by rates between 150 and 250 beats per minute and a QRS complex of supraventricular origin.
Tachycardia, Ectopic Atrial - A tachycardia originating in the atrial myocardium and characterized by rates between 135 and 175 beats per minute.
Tachycardia, Ectopic Junctional - A tachycardia arising in the conduction tissues surrounding the atrioventricular node. It usually occurs during myocardial infarction, after heart surgery, or in digitalis intoxication. The rate may range from 140 to 250 beats per minute.
Tachycardia, Sinoatrial Nodal Reentry - A tachycardia arising from the sinus node region and characterized by rates between 115 and 140 beats per minute. It is paroxysmal rather than constant.
Tachycardia, Sinus - A simple tachycardia with origin in the sinus node with gradual onset and termination. |
