Solutions
Medical Definition: | The homogeneous mixtures formed by the mixing of a solid, liquid, or gaseous substance (solute) with a liquid (the solvent), from which the dissolved substances can be recovered by physical processes. (From Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed) |

Contact Lens Solutions - Sterile solutions used to clean and disinfect contact lenses. | |
Dialysis Solutions - Solutions prepared for exchange across a semipermeable membrane of solutes below a molecular size determined by the cutoff threshold of the membrane material. | |
Hypertonic Solutions - Solutions that have a greater osmotic pressure than a reference solution such as blood, plasma, or interstitial fluid. | |
Hypotonic Solutions - Solutions that have a lesser osmotic pressure than a reference solution such as blood, plasma, or interstitial fluid. | |
Isotonic Solutions - Solutions having the same osmotic pressure as blood serum, or another solution with which they are compared. (From Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed & Dorland, 28th ed) | |
Organ Preservation Solutions - Solutions used to store organs and minimize tissue damage, particulary while awaiting implantation. | |
Rehydration Solutions - Fluids restored to the body in order to maintain normal water-electrolyte balance. |
