Neural Pathways
Medical Definition: | Neural tracts connecting one part of the nervous system with another. |
Guide Notes: | = "neural tracts"; coord NIM with origin (IM) + termination (IM) |
Also Called: | Neural Interconnections |
Afferent Pathways - Nerve structures through which impulses are conducted from a peripheral part toward a nerve center.
Efferent Pathways - Nerve structures through which impulses are conducted from a nerve center toward a peripheral site. Such impulses are conducted via efferent neurons (NEURONS, EFFFERENT), such as MOTOR NEURONS, autonomic neurons, and hypophyseal neurons.
Medial Forebrain Bundle - A complex group of fibers arising from the basal olfactory regions, the periamygdaloid region, and the septal nuclei, and passing to the lateral hypothalamus. Some fibers continue into the tegmentum.
Perforant Pathway - A pathway of fibers originating in the lateral part of the entorhinal area, perforating the subiculum of the hippocampus, and running into the stratum moleculare of the hippocampus, where these fibers synapse with others that go to the dentate gyrus. It is also called the perforating fasciculus. (Dorland, 28th ed) |
