Monocytes

Medical Definition: Large, phagocytic mononuclear leukocytes produced in the vertebrate BONE MARROW and released into the BLOOD; contain a large, oval or somewhat indented nucleus surrounded by voluminous cytoplasm and numerous organelles.
Guide Notes: do not confuse with LEUKOCYTES, MONONUCLEAR

Canadian Medical Guide Definition Monocytes, Activated Killer - Monocytes made cytotoxic by ex vivo incubation with cytokines, especially interferon-gamma. AKM cells are used for adoptive immunotherapy in cancer patients.
