Leukocyte Disorders
Medical Definition: | Disordered formation of various types of leukocytes or an abnormal accumulation or deficiency of these cells. |

Eosinophilia - Abnormal increase in eosinophils in the blood, tissues or organs. | |
Leukocytosis - A transient increase in the number of leukocytes in a body fluid. | |

Leukostasis - Abnormal intravascular leukocyte aggregation and clumping often seen in leukemia patients. The brain and lungs are the two most commonly affected organs. This acute syndrome requires aggressive cytoreductive modalities including chemotherapy and/or leukophoresis. It is differentiated from LEUKEMIC INFILTRATION which is a neoplastic process where leukemic cells invade organs. | |
Pelger-Huet Anomaly - An inherited defect interfering with normal nuclear lobulation of neutrophils and eosinophils. The nuclei appear rodlike, spherical, or dumbbell-shaped and their structure is coarse and lumpy. (From Dorland, 27th ed) | |
Phagocyte Bactericidal Dysfunction - Disorders in which phagocytic cells cannot kill ingested bacteria; characterized by frequent recurring infection with formulation of granulomas. |
