Medical Definition: | Methods, procedures, and tests performed in the laboratory with an intended application to the diagnosis of disease or understanding of physiological functioning. The techniques include examination of microbiological, cytological, chemical, and biochemical specimens, normal and pathological. |
Guide Notes: | GEN: prefer specifics; Manual 26.7 |
Also Called: | Laboratory Diagnosis,Laboratory Examinations and Diagnoses,Laboratory Procedures |
Clinical Chemistry Tests - Laboratory tests demonstrating the presence of physiologically significant substances in the blood, urine, tissue, and body fluids with application to the diagnosis or therapy of disease.
Cytodiagnosis - Diagnosis of the type and, when feasible, the cause of a pathologic process by means of microscopic study of cells in an exudate or other form of body fluid. (Stedman, 26th ed)
Hematologic Tests - Tests used in the analysis of the hemic system.
Immunologic Tests - Diagnostic techniques involving the demonstration or measurement of an immune response, including antibody production or assay, antigen-antibody reactions, serologic cross-reactivity, delayed hypersensitivity reactions, or heterogenetic responses.
Metabolic Clearance Rate - Volume of biological fluid completely cleared of drug metabolites as measured in unit time. Elimination occurs as a result of metabolic processes in the kidney, liver, saliva, sweat, intestine, heart, brain, or other site.
Occult Blood - Chemical, spectroscopic, or microscopic detection of extremely small amounts of blood.
Parasite Egg Count | |
Sex Determination (Analysis) - Validation of the SEX of an individual by inspection of the GONADS and/or by genetic tests.
Specimen Handling - Procedures for collecting, preserving, and transporting of specimens sufficiently stable to provide accurate and precise results suitable for clinical interpretation.
Sperm Count - A count of SPERM in the ejaculum, expressed as number per milliliter. |
