Spectrum Analysis

Medical Definition:	The measurement of the amplitude of the components of a complex waveform throughout the frequency range of the waveform. (McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed)

Spectrum Analysis Categories.

	Circular Dichroism - A change from planar to elliptic polarization when an initially plane-polarized light wave traverses an optically active medium. (McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed)
	Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy - Spectroscopic method of measuring the magnetic moment of elementary particles such as atomic nuclei, protons or electrons. It is employed in clinical applications such as NMR Tomography (MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING).
	Optical Rotatory Dispersion - The method of measuring the dispersion of an optically active molecule to determine the relative magnitude of right- or left-handed components and sometimes structural features of the molecule.
	Pulse Radiolysis - Use of a pulse of X-rays or fast electrons to generate free radicals for spectroscopic examination.
	Spectrometry, Gamma - Determination of the energy distribution of gamma rays emitted by nuclei. (McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed)
	Spectrometry, X-Ray Emission - Identification and measurement of concentration of elements based on the fact that x-rays emitted by an excited element have a wavelength characteristic of that element and an intensity related to its concentration. It includes fluorescence, or secondary-emission, x-ray spectrometry, in which the specimen is irradiated by x-rays. Primary-emission x-ray spectrometry, in which the specimen is bombarded by electrons, is a specific type of x-ray emission spectrometry known as ELECTRON PROBE MICROANALYSIS.
	Spectrum Analysis, Mass - Analysis of the mass of an object through means of determining the wave length(s) at which electromagnetic energy is absorbed by that object.
	Spectrum Analysis, Raman - Analysis of the intensity of Raman scattering of monochromatic light as a function of frequency of the scattered light.
