Physical Therapy Techniques

Medical Definition:	Therapies, including those used in the discipline of PHYSICAL THERAPY (SPECIALTY); employing physical phenomena such as temperature, light, water, and sound.

Physical Therapy Techniques Categories.

	Balneology - Therapy by various hot or warm baths in natural mineral waters, spas, or "cures". It includes not only bathing in, but also drinking the waters, but it does not include whirlpool baths (HYDROTHERAPY).
	Cryotherapy - A form of therapy consisting in the local or general use of cold. The selective destruction of tissue by extreme cold or freezing is CRYOSURGERY. (McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed)
	Electric Stimulation Therapy - Application of electric current in treatment without the generation of perceptible heat. It includes electric stimulation of nerves or muscles, passage of current into the body, or use of interrupted current of low intensity to raise the threshold of the skin to pain.
	Hydrotherapy - External application of water for therapeutic purposes.
	Hyperthermia, Induced - Abnormally high temperature intentionally induced in living things regionally or whole body. It is most often induced by radiation (heat waves, infra-red), ultrasound, or drugs.
	Phototherapy - Treatment of disease by exposure to light, especially by variously concentrated light rays or specific wavelengths.
	Rewarming - Application of heat to correct hypothermia, accidental or induced.
	Thalassotherapy - The therapeutic use of seaside resorts; includes treatment by sea air, sea voyages, and sea bathing.
