Obstetric Surgical Procedures

Medical Definition:	Surgery performed on the pregnant woman for conditions associated with pregnancy, labor, or the puerperium. It does not include surgery of the newborn infant.

Obstetric Surgical Procedures Categories.

	Abortion, Induced - Intentional removal of a fetus from the uterus by any of a number of techniques. (POPLINE, 1978)
	Cerclage, Cervical - The surgical closure of the incompetent cervix uteri with suture material.
	Colpotomy - An incision in the vagina.
	Delivery, Obstetric - Delivery of the FETUS and PLACENTA under the care of an obstetrician or a health worker. Obstetric deliveries may involve physical, psychological, medical, or surgical interventions.
	Hysterotomy - An incision in the uterus, performed through either the abdomen or the vagina.
