Anthraquinones

Medical Definition:

Compounds based on ANTHRACENES which contains two KETONES in any position. Substitutions can be in any position except on the ketone groups.

Anthraquinones Categories.

	Carmine - Coloring matter from the insect Coccus cacti L. It is used in foods, pharmaceuticals, toiletries, etc., as a dye, and also has use as a microscopic stain and biological marker.
	Cascara - Dried aged bark of a buckthorn, Frangula purshiana (FRANGULA), that contains the anthraquinone EMODIN and cascarosides. It is used as a laxative (CATHARTICS).
	Mitoxantrone - An anthracenedione-derived antineoplastic agent.
