Pterins

Medical Definition:

Compounds based on 2-amino-4-hydroxypteridine.

Pterins Categories.

	Aminopterin - A folic acid derivative used as a rodenticide that has been shown to be teratogenic.
	Biopterin - A natural product that has been considered as a growth factor for some insects.
	Folic Acid - A member of the vitamin B family that stimulates the hematopoietic system. It is present in the liver and kidney and is found in mushrooms, spinach, yeast, green leaves, and grasses (POACEAE). Folic acid is used in the treatment and prevention of folate deficiencies and megaloblastic anemia.
	Xanthopterin - 2-Amino-1,5-dihydro-4,6-pteridinedione. Pigment first discovered in butterfly wings and widely distributed in plants and animals.
