Psychotherapeutic Processes
Medical Definition: | Experiential, attitudinal, emotional, or behavioral phenomena occurring during the course of treatment. Abreaction - A process in psychotherapy in which the patient is "desensitized" to emotionally painful, often forgotten (repressed) memories by recalling and reacting to them in the "safety" of the treatment setting. | |
Transference (Psychology) - The unconscious transfer to others (including psychotherapists) of feelings and attitudes which were originally associated with important figures (parents, siblings, etc.) in one's early life. |
