Medical Definition: | Genus of bacteria in the family PASTEURELLEACEAE, comprising multiple species that do not ferment trehalose. Species include MANNHEIMIA HAEMOLYTICA, M. glucosida, M. granulomatis, M. ruminalis, and M. varigena. |

Mannheimia haemolytica - A species of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria normally commensal in the flora of cattle and sheep. But under conditions of physical or physiological stress, it can cause mastitis in sheep and shipping fever (see PASTEURELLOSIS, PNEUMONIC) in cattle. Its former name was Pasteurella haemolytica. |
