Musculoskeletal Physiologic Phenomena

Musculoskeletal Physiologic Phenomena Categories.

	Bone Density - The amount of mineral per square centimeter of BONE. This is the definition used in clinical practice. Actual bone density would be expressed in grams per milliliter. It is most frequently measured by photon absorptiometry or x-ray computed tomography.
	Muscle Fatigue - A state arrived at through prolonged and strong contraction of a muscle. Studies in athletes during prolonged submaximal exercise have shown that muscle fatigue increases in almost direct proportion to the rate of muscle glycogen depletion. Muscle fatigue in short-term maximal exercise is associated with oxygen lack and an increased level of blood and muscle lactic acid, and an accompanying increase in hydrogen-ion concentration in the exercised muscle.
	Muscle Tonus - The state of activity or tension of a muscle beyond that related to its physical properties, that is, its active resistance to stretch. In skeletal muscle, tonus is dependent upon efferent innervation. (Stedman, 25th ed)
	Musculoskeletal Equilibrium - A state of the body being evenly balanced in POSTURE. The biomechanical responses of the MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM during standing, walking, sitting, and other movements.
	Physical Endurance - The time span between the beginning of physical activity by an individual and the termination because of exhaustion.
	Posture - The position of the limbs or the carriage of the body as a whole. (Stedman, 25th ed.)
