Filoviridae
Medical Definition: | A family of viruses, of the order MONONEGAVIRALES, containing filamentous virions. Although they resemble RHABDOVIRIDAE in possessing helical nucleocapsids, Filoviridae differ in the length and degree of branching in their virions. There are two genera: EBOLA-LIKE VIRUSES and MARBURG-LIKE VIRUSES. |

Ebola-like Viruses - A genus in the family FILOVIRIDAE consisting of several distinct species of Ebola virus, each containing separate strains. These viruses cause outbreaks of a contagious, hemorrhagic disease (HEMORRHAGIC FEVER, EBOLA) in humans, usually with high mortality. | |
Marburg-like Viruses - A genus in the family FILOVIRIDAE consisting of one species (Marburg virus) with several strains. The genus shows no antigenic cross-reactivity with EBOLA-LIKE VIRUSES. |
