Amino Acid Sequence

Medical Definition: The order of amino acids as they occur in a polypeptide chain. This is referred to as the primary structure of proteins. It is of fundamental importance in determining PROTEIN CONFORMATION.
Guide Notes: IM general; coord NIM with specific protein or peptide; when to index with MOLECULAR SEQUENCE DATA: see note there; DF: AMINO ACID SEQ or AA SEQ; use this heading when protein structure refers to the sequence of a protein; for covalent bonds to other mole
Amino Acid Sequence Categories.
Canadian Medical Guide Definition Catalytic Domain - The region of an enzyme that interacts with its substrate to cause the enzymatic reaction.
Canadian Medical Guide Definition Histone Code - The specific patterns of POST-TRANSLATIONAL PROTEIN MODIFICATION of HISTONES, i.e. histone ACETYLATION; METHYLATION; PHOSPHORYLATION; and ubiquitination, at specific amino acid residues, that are involved in assembly, maintenance, and modification of different chromatin structural states, such as EUCHROMATIN and HETEROCHROMATIN.
Canadian Medical Guide Definition Repetitive Sequences, Amino Acid - A sequential pattern of amino acids occurring more than once in the same protein sequence.
