Chlorine Compounds

Medical Definition:	Inorganic compounds that contain chlorine as an integral part of the molecule.

Chlorine Compounds Categories.

	Chlorates - Inorganic salts of chloric acid that contain the ClO3- ion.
	Cisplatin - An inorganic and water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts with DNA to produce both intra and interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity of cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in the G2 phase of the cell cycle.
	Ruthenium Red - An inorganic dye used in microscopy for differential staining and as a diagnostic reagent. In research this compound is used to study changes in cytoplasmic concentrations of calcium. Ruthenium red inhibits calcium transport through membrane channels.
