Hypersensitivity, Immediate

Medical Definition:	Hypersensitivity reactions which occur within minutes of exposure to challenging antigen due to the release of histamine which follows the antigen-antibody reaction and causes smooth muscle contraction and increased vascular permeability.

Hypersensitivity, Immediate Categories.

	Anaphylaxis - An acute hypersensitivity reaction due to exposure to a previously encountered antigen. The reaction may include rapidly progressing urticaria, respiratory distress, vascular collapse, systemic shock, and death.
	Food Hypersensitivity - Gastrointestinal disturbances, skin eruptions, or shock due to allergic reactions to allergens in food.
