Benzofurans

Medical Definition:
Also Called:	Diphenylbenzofuran

Benzofurans Categories.

	Amiodarone - An antianginal and antiarrhythmic drug. It increases the duration of ventricular and atrial muscle action by inhibiting Na,K-activated myocardial adenosine triphosphatase. There is a resulting decrease in heart rate and in vascular resistance.
	Benzbromarone - Uricosuric that acts by increasing uric acid clearance. It is used in the treatment of gout.
	Cantharidin - A toxic compound, isolated from the Spanish fly or blistering beetle (Lytta (Cantharis) vesicatoria) and other insects. It is a potent and specific inhibitor of protein phosphatases 1 (PP1) and 2A (PP2A). This compound can produce severe skin inflammation, and is extremely toxic if ingested orally.
	Griseofulvin - An antifungal antibiotic. Griseofulvin may be given by mouth in the treatment of tinea infections.
