Residential Facilities

Medical Definition:	Long-term care facilities which provide supervision and assistance in activities of daily living with medical and nursing services when required.

Residential Facilities Categories.

	Assisted Living Facilities - A housing and health care alternative combining independence with personal care. It provides a combination of housing, personalized supportive services and health care designed to meet the needs, both scheduled and unscheduled, of those who need help with activities of daily living. 	Group Homes - Housing for groups of patients, children, or others who need or desire emotional or physical support. They are usually established as planned, single housekeeping units in residential dwellings that provide care and supervision for small groups of residents, who, although unrelated, live together as a family.
	Halfway Houses - Specialized residences for persons who do not require full hospitalization, and are not well enough to function completely within the community without professional supervision, protection and support.
	Homes for the Aged - Geriatric long-term care facilities which provide supervision and assistance in activities of daily living with medical and nursing services when required.
	Nursing Homes - Facilities which provide nursing supervision and limited medical care to persons who do not require hospitalization.
	Orphanages - Institutions for the housing and care of orphans, foundlings, and abandoned children. They have existed as such since the medieval period but the heading is applicable to such usage also in modern parlance.
