Blastocyst

Medical Definition:	Early preimplantation mammalian EMBRYO in the post-MORULA stage. Its structure consists of a TROPHOBLASTS-enclosed fluid-filled cavity with an inner cell mass. After EMBRYO IMPLANTATION, the inner cell mass of the blastocyst becomes the embryonic disc of the developing embryo.
Guide Notes:	Mammalian only; non-mammalian, use BLASTULA; /transpl: coord BLASTOCYST (NIM with no qualif) + EMBRYO TRANSFER (IM); do not confuse with BLASTOCYTES see BLASTOMERES

Blastocyst Categories.

Blastoderm - A single layer of cells produced by cleavage of the fertilized ovum and forming the outer cells of the blastula.
