Embolism, Cholesterol

Medical Definition: An embolism of lipid debris from an ulcerated atheromatous deposit, generally from a large artery to small arterial branches. It is usually small and rarely causes infarction. (Stedman, 25th ed)

Canadian Medical Guide Definition Blue Toe Syndrome - Atherothrombotic microembolism of the lower extremities due to recurrent cholesterol embolic 'showers' with painful cyanotic discoloration of the toes and embolism to other sites that completely resolve between attacks.
