Acid Etching, Dental

Medical Definition:	Preparation of TOOTH surfaces and DENTAL MATERIALS with etching agents, usually phosphoric acid, to roughen the surface to increase adhesion or osteointegration.
Guide Notes:	etching of tooth surface to increase adhesion of resins; do not use for etching of metal appliances for better adhesion ( = specific appliance (IM) + METALLURGY (NIM) ); do not use for etching of veneers or resins ( = specific dent restoration); DF: ACID
