Cell Division

Medical Definition:	The fission of a CELL. Cytokinesis, when the CYTOPLASM of a cell is divided, occurs after CELL NUCLEUS division is complete.

Cell Division Categories.

	Cell Division Phases - The stages which a cell undergoes when dividing. There are four successive phases: PROPHASE; METAPHASE; ANAPHASE; and TELEPHASE.
	Chromosome Segregation - The orderly segregation of chromosomes during MEIOSIS or MITOSIS.
	Meiosis - A special method of cell division, occurring in maturation of the germ cells, by means of which each daughter nucleus receives half the number of chromosomes characteristic of the somatic cells of the species.
	Mitosis - A method of indirect cell division by means of which the two daughter nuclei normally receive identical complements of the number of chromosomes of the somatic cells of the species.
