Microbiology

Medical Definition:	The study of microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria, algae, archaea, and viruses.
Guide Notes:	SPEC only; prefer /microbiol with specific organ, higher animal & disease: Manual 19.7+, 19.8.46; note precoord microbiology terms (AIR MICROBIOLOGY; FOOD MICROBIOLOGY; etc); presence of microbes in the blood: coord with the disease /microbiol, not /blood

Microbiology Categories.

	Bacteriology
	Environmental Microbiology - The study of microorganisms living in a variety of environments (air, soil, water, etc.) and their pathogenic relationship to other organisms including man.
	Industrial Microbiology - The study, utilization, and manipulation of those microorganisms capable of economically producing desirable substances or changes in substances, and the control of undesirable microorganisms.
