Malvaceae

Medical Definition:	The mallow family of the order Malvales, subclass Dilleniidae, class Magnoliopsida. Members include COTTON, okra (ABELMOSCHUS), HIBISCUS, and CACAO. The common names of hollyhock and mallow are used for several genera of Malvaceae.

	Abelmoschus - A plant genus of the family MALVACEAE, order Malvales, subclass Dilleniidae best known for okra.
	Althaea - A plant genus of the family MALVACEAE known for mucilaginous roots. The common names of hollyhock and mallow are also used for other genera of MALVACEAE.
	Gossypium - A plant genus of the family MALVACEAE. It is the source of COTTON FIBER; COTTONSEED OIL, which is used for cooking, and GOSSYPOL. The economically important cotton crop is a major user of agricultural PESTICIDES.
	Hibiscus - A plant genus of the family MALVACEAE. Members contain LIGNANS. H. cannabinus is a source of textile fiber (TEXTILES).
