Algae, Brown

Medical Definition: Predominantly marine algae of the division Phaeophyta, having CHROMATOPHORES containing carotenoid pigments. ALGINATES and phlorotannins occur widely in all major orders. They are considered the most highly evolved algae because of their well-developed multicelluar organization and structural complexity.
