Acids, Noncarboxylic
Medical Definition: | Inorganic acids with a non metal, other than carbon, attached to hydrogen, or an acid radical containing no carbon. |
Guide Notes: | GEN; prefer specifics; used for mapping supplementary chemicals |
Boric Acids - Inorganic and organic derivatives of boric acid either B(OH)3 or, preferably H3BO3.
Borinic Acids - Inorganic or organic compounds that contain the general structure R2B(OH).
Boronic Acids - Inorganic or organic compounds that contain the basic structure RB(OH)2.
Carbonic Acid - Carbonic acid (H2C03). The hypothetical acid of carbon dioxide and water. It exists only in the form of its salts (carbonates), acid salts (hydrogen carbonates), amines (carbamic acid), and acid chlorides (carbonyl chloride). (From Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed)
Hydrobromic Acid - Hydrobromic acid (HBr). A solution of hydrogen bromide gas in water.
Hydrochloric Acid - A strong corrosive acid that is commonly used as a laboratory reagent. It is formed by dissolving hydrogen chloride in water. GASTRIC ACID is the hydrochloric acid component of GASTRIC JUICE.
Hydrofluoric Acid - Hydrofluoric acid. A solution of hydrogen fluoride in water. It is a colorless fuming liquid which can cause painful burns.
Hydrogen Cyanide - Hydrogen cyanide (HCN); A toxic liquid or colorless gas. It is found in the smoke of various tobacco products and released by combustion of nitrogen-containing organic materials.
Hydrogen Sulfide - A flammable, poisonous gas with a characteristic odor of rotten eggs. It is used in the manufacture of chemicals, in metallurgy, and as an analytical reagent. (From Merck Index, 11th ed)
Hypochlorous Acid - An oxyacid of chlorine (HClO) containing monovalent chlorine that acts as an oxidizing or reducing agent.
Nitric Acid - Nitric acid (HNO3). A colorless liquid that is used in the manufacture of inorganic and organic nitrates and nitro compounds for fertilizers, dye intermediates, explosives, and many different organic chemicals. Continued exposure to vapor may cause chronic bronchitis; chemical pneumonitis may occur. (From Merck Index, 11th ed)
Nitrous Acid - Nitrous acid (HNO2). A weak acid that exists only in solution. It can form water-soluble nitrites and stable esters. (From Merck Index, 11th ed)
Perchloric Acid - An oxidizing agent that is used in analytical chemistry for separation of potassium from sodium. (From Merck Index, 11th ed)
Periodic Acid - A strong oxidizing agent.
Phosphorus Acids - Inorganic acids that contain phosphorus as an integral part of the molecule.
Silicic Acid - Hydrated silicon dioxide that occurs in nature. It is insoluble in water or acids except hydrofluoric acid. (From Merck Index, 11th ed)
Sulfur Acids - Inorganic or organic acids that contain sulfur as an integral part of the molecule. |
