It is caused by several bacterial species and can produce disease in DOGS, CATTLE, SHEEP, GOATS, HORSES, and humans. The primary species causing human disease are EHRLICHIA CHAFFEENSIS; ANAPLASMA PHAGOCYTOPHILUM; and Ehrlichia ewingii.
