Ergot Alkaloids

Medical Definition: Alkaloids originally isolated from the ergot fungus Claviceps purpurea (Hypocreaceae). They include compounds that are structurally related to ergoline (ERGOLINES) and ERGOTAMINE (ERGOTAMINES). Many of the ergot alkaloids act as alpha-adrenergic antagonists.
